RACE RULES

• It is illegal to give or sell your bib number and timing device to another runner..
• You must complete the entire course to be listed in the official results. Anyone who does not complete the entire course will be disqualified.
• If you are a registered runner and you run only part of the course, DO NOT CROSS THE FINISH LINE!
• No early starters and no late starters! The starting area closes five minutes after the starting gun is fired, so do not be late for the start. The course starting area is monitored by the race personnel for "illegal early and late starters."
• No bicycles, unicyles, tricycles, inline skates, blades, skateboards, pets, or baby joggers! The only wheeled vehicles allowed on the course are those of the wheelchair competitors and CIM officials.
• No non-registered runners! It is unfair and illegal to have unregistered people run with you or offer assistance. Video cameras, phoographers and officials will be stationed throughout the course to preserve the integrity of the event. Runners receiving illegal assistance WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
• Do not allow anyone to come onto the course to accompany you on the final stretch to the finish. This is illegal, can result in disqualification, and can cause serious problems including injuries to you or to other runners.
• Do not run on the wrong side of the road. The certified route after the 10.5 mile point is on the RIGHT side of the center yellow line. Prior to the 10.5 mile mark, you are allowed to run on the entire road.
• Portable listening devices may not be used on the course by anyone competing for an award or prize money.

RACE RECOMMENDATIONS

• No electronic head gear. No Walkmans, portable CD carriers, iPods, or headsets of any kind. The CIM follows the recently revised rules of USA Track & Field that discourages the use of these devices in a long distance running (LDR) event, although they are no longer banned as long as you are not competing for an award or prize money. text and discussion of USATF Rule

COURSE TIME LIMIT
The 26.2-mile marathon course closes some of the area's busiest streets, intersections, and bridges. Our event permit limits the race to a finish time of six hours (6:00), a pace of about 13:44 per mile. Race services, aid stations or traffic control will not be provided on the course after a 13:44-per-mile pace. Official finish times, finish medals, and post-race refreshments are not guaranteed for any finishers over six hours. An early start is not available. The race starts at 7 a.m.

Bus tickets must be purchased with race entry or at the Sports and Fitness Expo--they are not available for purchase on race day. Buses depart from the Sheraton Grand Hotel from 4:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. for the 45-minute trip. There is no parking for private vehicles at the start and runner drop-off is located up to one mile from the start. If you are not taking the bus, give yourself plenty of time due to traffic congestion in the runner drop-off area. The start area closes five minutes after the start gun is fired. All runner sweats are transported from the start to the finish.
PRIZE MONEY AND AWARDS
Prize money will be awarded to the top open and masters individuals. Plaques will be awarded to the top three finishers in five-year age groups in a race-day ceremony.
THE MARATHON COURSE

The CIM course is one of America's fastest with gently rolling hills the first 13 miles, a gradual elevation drop, wide and smooth streets, and a dramatic finish at the State Capitol. These features combined with cool temperatures, experienced volunteers, and 18 well-stocked aid stations provide ideal conditions for fast performances.
