CIM Event Rules

  • No one other than the runner who officially registered may use the bib number and timing chip issued to that runner. Transferring and/or selling of these items is illegal.
  • The bib number must be clearly visible at all times, may not be altered in any way, and must be displayed on the front of the runner.
  • Timing chip must be worn as follows:
    • Individual event runners: securely attached to the top of the shoe.
    • Relay runners: on the ankle using the strap provided, no higher than six inches from the ground.
  • You must complete the entire course to be listed in the official results.  Anyone who does not complete the entire course will be disqualified.
  • If you run only part of the course, DO NOT CROSS THE FINISH LINE!
  • No early starters and no late starters! The starting area closes 5 minutes after the starting gun is fired, so do not be late for the start. The course starting area is monitored by the race personnel for "illegal early and late starters."
  • No bicycles, unicyles, tricycles, inline skates, blades, skateboards, pets, or baby joggers! The only wheeled vehicles allowed on the course are those of the wheelchair competitors and CIM officials.
  • Wearing of headphones, iPods or Walkman-type radios is discouraged.
  • No non-registered runners are allowed on the course for any reason.
  • Individual pacing or on-course coaching or other forms of personal assistance by a registered or non-registered person is illegal, unfair to other runners, and is not allowed. Video cameras and officials will be stationed throughout the course to preserve the integrity of the event. Runners receiving illegal assistance WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Officially finishing a marathon is to be done by persons seeking an individual accomplishment, unaided by others.
  • Do not allow anyone to come onto the course to accompany you on the final stretch to the finish. This is illegal, can result in disqualification, and can cause serious problems including injuries to you or to other runners.
  • Don't run on the wrong side of the road. The certified route after the 10.5 mile point is on the RIGHT side of the center yellow line. Prior to the 10.5 mile mark, you are allowed to run on the entire road.
