Run for a Reason: Charities with CIM Pledge Programs

From its inception, the Sacramento Running Association has had a strong commitment to youth fitness through its monetary contributions to and leadership, management, and support for local youth fitness initiatives.  The SRA Board has always believed it is essential to support running and runners because of the myriad of health benefits gained from running.  As the running community grows, the overall health and well being of our community improves.  This mission could not be more applicable to the youth in our community.

The following charities share our commitment to community fitness and have CIM pledge programs geared towards improving the overall fitness of those in our community.  Click on the links below to learn more about these programs.

Additional "CIM Run for a Reason" groups will be added here, so please check back periodically. The CIM's beneficiaries include youth fitness, regional running venue improvements and development, the American River Parkway, and support for elite, post-collegiate, Sacramento-connected runners.

Shriner's Hospital Sacramento

The generosity of donors enables Shriners Hospitals for Children® to deliver life-changing medical care without placing burden on the families of our patients. No matter how large or small, every gift to Shriners Hospitals for Children makes a difference in the life of a child. The California International Marathon provides a "Youth Fitness" donation to Shriners each year, which is designated for the purchase of rehabilitative exercise equipment.

If you are running the California International Marathon, and would like to set up a donation page for Shriners Hospital, setting up a "Personal Page" will probably be the best option. You will be able to customize the page for pledges from your friends and family who support you in your individual marathon or marathon relay finish goal (i.e. list a certain donation amount for each mile you are running).

Be Change

Equal Start and its numerous initiatives are making a dynamic impact on Sacramento's inner city.  Activist and Runner Jason Harper and his team are bringing awareness to the plight of health care and quality access for the children of Sacramento's inner-city. Harper, Equal Start's founder, began serving on the campus of Oak Ridge Elementary School in 2005 and fell in love with the incredible children and families who live in the heart of Sacramento's roughest neighborhoods.

Run for a Reason is partnering with runners of the CIM to run on behalf of an inner city child who attends Oak Ridge Elementary in Oak Park.  Knowing that runners are more motivated with a reason to the run, we are aligning one runner for every child in the school.

Imagine, running on behalf of an inner-city child and raising awareness and funding to secure, academic supplies, and support, health care enrollment and access, enhanced nutrition, acute dental care and after-school fitness programming.
