From its inception, the Sacramento Running Association has had a strong commitment to youth fitness through its monetary contributions to and leadership, management, and support for local youth fitness initiatives. The SRA Board has always believed it is essential to support running and runners because of the myriad of health benefits gained from running. As the running community grows, the overall health and well being of our community improves. This mission could not be more applicable to the youth in our community.
The following charities share our commitment to community fitness and have CIM pledge programs geared towards improving the overall fitness of those in our community. Click on the links below to learn more about these programs.
If you are interested in having your charity/pledge program information listed here, please send your request to the CIM's email listed below. Your request will be reviewed by the Sacramento Running Association Board, and you will be notified about the Board's decision. Please understand that the SRA's beneficiaries include youth fitness programs, regional running venue improvements and development, the American River Parkway, and support for local, elite, post-collegiate runners. Charities connected to these beneficiaries receive priority in this decision-making process.
The generosity of donors enables Shriners Hospitals for Children® to deliver life-changing medical care without placing a burden on the families of our patients. No matter how large or small, every gift to Shriners Hospitals for Children makes a difference in the life of a child. The California International Marathon provides a "Youth Fitness" donation to Shriners each year, which is designated for the purchase of rehabilitative exercise equipment.
If you are running the California International Marathon, and would like to set up a donation page for Shriners Hospital, setting up a "Personal Page" will probably be the best option. You will be able to customize the page for pledges from your friends and family who support you in your individual marathon or marathon relay finish goal (i.e. list a certain donation amount for each mile you are running).
In 2007, the California International Marathon first adopted a visually impaired division and it quickly became a premier destination marathon event for blind runners from across the country. Not only does the CIM serve as the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) National Marathon Championships, it welcomes international participants, youth, novice marathoners, blinded veterans, and relay participants.
The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is a 501(c)-(3) organization that provides life-enriching sports opportunities for every individual with a visual impairment. A member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, USABA provides athletic opportunities in various sports including, but not limited to track and field, Nordic and alpine skiing, biathlon, judo, wrestling, swimming, tandem cycling, powerlifting and goalball (a team sport for the blind and visually impaired).
Sports opportunities allow people who are blind and visually impaired to develop independence through competition, without unnecessary restrictions. USABA programs serve athletes of all ages and abilities from local grassroots programs to the elite Paralympic level.
By partnering with Sacramento area eye care professionals and VSP Vision Care, USABA is able to help educate the public about the importance of eye care health and community service opportunities: serving as running guides, providing logistical support, and fundraising.
USABA cannot accomplish its mission without fundraising support from caring people who would like to share the sport they love with someone who would not otherwise be able to participate.
Please consider joining USABA in its mission by making a donation or by creating your own personalized fundraising page.

For over 20 years, the American River Conservancy has been preserving rivers and land for life. As a non-profit community organization in the central Sierra Nevada foothills, we work to preserve natural areas and cultural resources to build an enduring ethic of care, while promoting a sustainable future for humans in harmony with nature.
The American River Conservancy uses best available science, volunteers and partnerships to preserve rivers, land and the life they support. Through education and recreation, we inspire the care of natural landscapes for future generations. Our uniquely integrated approach:
We focus our work on the American and Cosumnes River watersheds - a location that is ideal to safeguard the quality of water flowing from the Sierra Nevada into domestic water supplies in Sacramento, the Central Valley and beyond.
Mission/Vision
Team RWB’s mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity. We do this in 3 ways:
Equal Start and its numerous initiatives are making a dynamic impact on Sacramento's inner city. Activist and Runner Jason Harper and his team are bringing awareness to the plight of health care and quality access for the children of Sacramento's inner-city. Harper, Equal Start's founder, began serving on the campus of Oak Ridge Elementary School in 2005 and fell in love with the incredible children and families who live in the heart of Sacramento's roughest neighborhoods.
Run for a Reason is partnering with runners of the CIM to run on behalf of an inner city child who attends Oak Ridge Elementary in Oak Park. Knowing that runners are more motivated with a reason to the run, we are aligning one runner for every child in the school.
Imagine, running on behalf of an inner-city child and raising awareness and funding to secure, academic supplies, and support, health care enrollment and access, enhanced nutrition, acute dental care and after-school fitness programming.
